Greetings from Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sumay Clark
Sumay Clark is the driving force behind A Pass to A New Beginning, a testament to the transformative power of personal adversity. Her mission is to equip individuals with the resources and skills needed to enhance their quality of life while dismantling systemic barriers that hinder growth and sustainability.
Growing up without the presence of her parents was its own struggle, prompting self-doubt about her worthiness of love and a better life. Yet, she refused to let one mistake define her entire existence, steering away from judgment based on a chapter others walked in on.
The lesson of change came to Sumay through painful experiences. Surviving a brutal attack at 15 and spending time in a juvenile facility became the crucible for resilience and compassion. At 17, pregnant during incarceration, she silently vowed to return and support youth facing similar struggles
As a Hospital-based Violence Intervention and Prevention Specialist at Trinity Health of New England, Sumay immersed herself in advocating for victims of community violence. She continues her advocacy and empowerment work by focusing on providing holistic support to individuals and families within her community, breaking down barriers to sustainable living.
Surviving domestic violence and sexual assault, Sumay’s heart now beats for empowering individuals to take control of their healing journey. The joy she finds in being a catalyst for change, helping people grow past the unnecessary and unfortunate circumstances they’ve faced, is immeasurable. Volunteering at the Office of Children and Family Services as a mentor for returning youth has further enriched her mission.
Recognized with the Connecticut Hospital Community Service Award during her tenure at Trinity Health of New England, Sumay’s commitment is unwavering – to continue breaking down systemic barriers, advocating for those without a voice, and fostering positive change through A Pass to A New Beginning.
Sumay eagerly anticipates embarking on a transformative journey with each participant, providing housing for those grappling with challenges she once struggled to overcome. It is incredibly fulfilling, and she looks forward to inspiring others to join in making positive changes in their communities.
